to sydney away!

so three weeks ago mizzmai trang and lynh set off to sydney for imats and random fun.
what an amazing time it was... this is the reminiscence of day one.

on the friday we were ready and packed for the airport, massively excited for the weekend to come and especially for IMATS. for those of you who don't know IMATS stands for the international makeup artists trade show. where top makeup lines, companies and guest speakers come to exhibit. this is the first year it was held in australia so we were super pumped, especially because we've all starting becoming obsessed with makeup.

so our flight to sydney was delayed by half hour, in which we entertained ourselves by taking pics, using a super cool handrier (lynh) and watching sytycd on mizzmai's laptop.

on board was amusing, lynh did her homework for the whole trip, an assignment due on wednesday an partying all weekend the girl knows how to plan ahead! mizzmai and trang watched abdc and we landed in sydney just after 3pm.

sydney amuses me in so many ways... the first amusement (and costly at that) the price of transportation! a daily ticket from the airport is around $25, just to get into the city, and that's mainly due to airport taxes, BS! we ended up just buying a one way, which was still $15... and get this, 10 min train ride, three stations. OH EM GEE. and we're asian too! us girls couldn't stop bitching about it on the train.
the second amusement is a signage they had on the door... for the life of me it still doesn't make sense... sydney is a world of contradiction.

finally getting off at central station we made our way to our hotel... wow, never trust a map, even if it doesn't say "not to scale" it's still not to scale. what seemed like it would only be three blocks on the map turned out to be about ten. lynh and myself were dying by the time we got to the hotel because we were carrying the luggage... trang fail #1. i have to give her credit, she tried, and nearly dropped the luggage in the street! nearly pulling herself under with it. LOL!

so we got to the hotel and all we wanted to do was check in, get into our beds and rest. but no, the reception guy had to be filo, with a strong accent and an extremely bad at explaining. i snapped, and was so pissed at him, but once he gave us the room key i apologise and blamed it on sydney HAHA.

we got into our room and wow. the view was AMAZING. we were so blown away... you'll never believe it, is it a building? is it a sculpture? nope. IT'S A BRICK WALL!
yup that's right, brick wall for a view. we weren't phased but found it hilarious! mr brick wall became our friend by the end of the trip. :)

so we kicked back, had a bit of a nap and just chillaxed before heading out that night... on the agenda... PINK SALT!
now i used to watch my restaurant rules when it was out 5 odd years ago, and i loved bella and evan's resturant concept when they were in the show... although they didn't win and didn't get to keep their resturant, they were so popular they opened one of the same calibre up in double bay, in sydney's eastern harbourside.

so we got glammed up and caught a cab. wow, was it an experience. sydney's cab's are white (worst concept ever - the idea of a cab is for it to stand out not blend in!) and the drivers, all drivers, not just taxi drivers are looney. sydneysiders need to stop popping before the drive because it's manic on the roads.
we got to double bay in one peace, and arrived at pink salt. greeted by the gorgeous bella she showed us to our table, and little one in the corner, one side decked out with a seated couch and scattered cushions and the other with chairs.

the venue was amazing, and such a nice place to start our sydney visit. bella was a fantastic hostess, she's so down to earth, was wearing the most gorgeous dress ever and all round stunning. food was divine, lynh and trang both got salmon while i got the homemade ravioli, and OMG don't get us started about the mash... we initially got one to share between the three of us, but loved it so much we order two more, one for each of us (fat i know!) only a third of the way through the first pot. of course we didn't end up finishing it! :P
dessert was nice too... not as good as the mains, but still delicious. we got a sample plate so we could try everything, my fav was the pink fluffy cupcake, pink salt's signature.

we ended the night by taking a picture with bella, and cabbing it home, which ended up costing us 1/2 the price compared to the way there because of the traffic, but we didn't care... day and night one in sydney was the first night of many amazing nights.
